Higher ed war gets hotter as Trump threatens Harvard’s tax exempt status

The US government has imposed a freeze on $22 billion in multi-year grants to Harvard University after it rejected demands that it change the hiring, admissions and other policies on anti-Semitism on its campus. Harvard said it has taken steps to address the issue. In March, the government had announced an investigation into 60 universities for allegedly failing to protect Jewish students.

Claudine Gay is the president of Harvard University

Harvard University’s President Claudine Gay, the first person of colour to hold the post at Harvard, has resigned following allegations of plagiarism in her works. Gay’s resignation comes after she appeared before a US House committee last month to answer questions about allegedly plagiarising other people’s work. Gay had apologised after a review found some instances of inadequate citation.
